Harrison stated that the reason he and Maria were married in Pennsylvania was that there was a large number of Confederate sympathizers in his family and there might be "bloodshed" if they were married locally. He picked her up from her father's home in a buggy, stayed overnight, returning the next day. Adam F. Everts and wife, Catherine, living at Manown, WV in 1909, were witnesses to them leaving to get married. Maria dressed for her wedding at their home. (Maria Conley Deposition Files) References
