After Everett died, Doris met again a high school sweetheart, and they were married. Their announcement stated: "We were born and reared within two miles of each other near Modoc, Indiana. We graduated from the same school and had dated in high school, after which went our separate ways - married, each had a family of two children and knew practically nothing of the others whereabouts for the following 60+ years. After the death of our spouses, some unusual circumstances occurred including a very serious auto accident, on March 24, 1991, involving Gordon. The friendship renewed which culminated in the May wedding."
