As I have seen so many who are trying to make Giles Travers the father of a woman born ca 1655 -- perhaps this will help.

First -- Giles was the son of Rawleigh Travers and wife Elizabeth. Elizabeth (maiden name NOT known) was first married to Thomas Stephens. She did not marry Rawleigh until "after" Nov 1654 at which time there was this: "On 17 Nov 1654 in Lancaster Co., Virginia: Thomas Stephens, late of this colony died intestate and Elizabeth Stephens, his relict, was granted administration of his estate by the Governor."

It is my estimate that Giles was probably born no earlier than 1658 -- and I think more likely around 1662. He was not the oldest son. Giles' daughter, Elizabeth, the supposed mother of said child born ca 1655, was probably born close to 1700. She was married and had one child when her father wrote his will in 1717. After John Cave died -- Elizabeth married Lewis Elzey -- who was born ca 1702. They had three children; William b. ca 1722 m. Elizabeth Blackburn; Mary m. William West; Elizabeth m. William Hancock.

Elizabeth, the daughter of Giles, did not have a daughter named Mary Cave. She had one son by John Cave and this child died young -- explained in a deed when the land of John Cave willed to his son reverted to a brother of John Cave.

Linda

Notes for JOHN CAVE: http://marglynn.com/gen/eava2.htm

John Cave was born ca 1640 in England, the son of Samuel Cave and Rachel Kellogg. He was an importer of fine wines. He owned land in Stafford County. He married 1) Unknown Andrews, daughter of George Andrews and had issue: John (this John died in 1749 without issue) and David. He married 2) Elizabeth Travers and had known issue: Mary. It is also possible that John Cave was the father of William Cave who died in 1742 of Stafford County as David released the land which reverted to him upon his brother John's death to Keene Withers who was married to this William Cave's daughter as this William Cave had died prior to 1748. In 1707 John Cave of King and Queen County, a carpenter, purchased from Sampson Darrell of Gloucester Co. 300 acres in Stafford County on the south side of Potomack Creek and bordering the lands of John Gorvey, Thomas Gregg, William Waught, and Giles Travers. John Cave along with John Echols paid for the transportation of many others to America. In 1721 the will of John Cave was proven at Stafford. The will was written in 1714 and devised 200 acres of land to his son John Cave but was reverted to David Cave and his wife Sarah in Orange County, VA. John Cave lived in Overwharton Parish.Other Cave's in Stafford, Spotsylvania and later Orange and Culpepper Counties who may have been sons of John Cave were: Benjamin, Robert, Thomas and Joseph. David, Benjamin and Robert were closely associated with one another in the public records between 1720 and 1750 and gave sons these names. David named sons: David, Benjamin and Robert. Benjamin named sons: Benjamin, John, William and David. Robert named sons: Robert, John and William. A chart for the family assembled by English genealogist, Tyrell, shows Benjamin as the immigrant of Rev.William Cave of Windsor, Chaplain to Charles II, and his wife Anna Stonehouse. Rev. William Cave's will was cited in support. The will mentions daughters, a grandson, a deceased son Ralph, but no mention of Benjamin nor any living son. Anna Stonehouse Cave died in 1691. Benjamin's depositon in 1758 states his birth in 1703. John Cave (ca 1640-1720) may not have been the immigrant. There were earlier Cave's who could have been a prior generation.

Carlton,

Lewis ELLZEY had only two sons: William by his first wife Elizabeth TRAVERS and Thomasin by his second wife Mary. Thomasin never married or had any direct descendants. William had two sons Lewis and William.

Where is Burial of Lewis Ellzey in Fairfax? Posted by: Anne Date: February 18, 2002 at 09:51:16 In Reply to: Re: Lewis Ellzey whom married Elizabet Travers Cave by Janet McKenney of 134

Lewis Ellzey died in Fairfax County VA circa 1786-1787 , as he wrote his will October 17, 1786. (This taken from several researchers) It is noted he was a vestryman in the Pohick Church of Fairfax. Is Lewis Ellzey buried in the Pohick Church Cemetery?

I am reading Volume V "Fairfax County Virginia Gravestones" Pohick Cemetery, and do not see any Ellzey burials. The Pohick cemetery is one of the oldest in Fairfax - the church being established 1732. The Civil war all but destroyed the cemetery and records, so just curious if Lewis Ellzey and wife/ wives are buried here without a headstone. Can anyone offer further on this. Anne

I reveiwed a will that belonged to Lewis Ellzey in the Fairfax City, VA Library about 2 weeks ago. Somebody told me that Thomasin Ellzey from Fairfax was actually Thomas Elsea. When I read the will it was obvious he (Thomasin Ellzey) was not the person I was looking for. Thomasin also paid taxes in Fairfax in 1782 and 1785. It seems his father Lewis Ellzey was a VA tobaco inspector in 1734. He can be found in Alexandria and Dumfries Va records. If you have anything on Thomas Elsea please send it my way. He was born circa 1760 and settled in east Tennessee.
