Gilbert's obit listed wife's maiden name as Mary Mulhern (married twice?)

The 1900 Federal Census Chicago ED981 indicated their family lived at 6735 S. Justine next door to the Charles Taff and George Edwards Jr. families:

Gilbert Edwards - Head 32 yrs Occupation: Bricklayer Ida Edwards - Wife 30 yrs Loretta Edwards - Daughter 6 yrs Irene Edwards - Daughter 4 yrs

The 1920 Federal Census shows a Gilbert Edwards living Next to George Edwards et al at 7539 Clyde with wife Mary J. Edwards and nobody else. However, other records indicate he had married an Ida McWayne earlier that suggest that Ida had died or he divorced her. Gilbert is shown as 45 yrs and into construction as a builder. Mary was shown as 37 yrs, her parents being born in Ireland.
