    According to a Find A Grave contributor in Nov 2015, "He (George Van Houten) left wife Elizabeth Case and lived in Pennsylvania for 17 years, apparently marrying there a Matilda Krebs and had 6 children with her before returning to his first wife. No record of a marriage to Matilda has ever been found so unknown if he was legally divorced/married."

    According to a Find A Grave contributor in 2016, "Matilda Krebs, on her application for a widow's pension, claims she married him April 7, 1872 in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania- they claimed each had not been married before."
