They were married by Wm. W. Stevens, J. P. They are listed in the marriage records for Allen County, Indiana 1857-1861 as "George W. Townsend to Josephine Gladio."

They were members of St. Louis Catholic Church at Besancon, Indiana. George was baptised there as "Georgium Townsend."

Their golden wedding anniversary was announced on the front page of the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette on August 23, 1910. It read, "Mr. and Mrs. George W. Townsend, residing one mile east of Besancon, in Jefferson township, who celebrate their golden wedding anniversary, today, have been life long residents of that portion of Allen county and are among the most respected people of the county. A large number of relatives and friends reside in Fort Wayne and guests will be present at to-day's celebration from many parts of Indiana and Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Townsend were married in Allen county and have always resided on the farm where they live their happy lives to-day. Mrs. Townsend was Miss Gladieux, a sister of Mr. Francis Gladieux who with his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Saturday, August 6."

George was 69 years old when he died.

Josephine was 78 years old when she died.

They are both buried at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in New Haven, Indiana.
