Family History

George Charles Spencer-Churchill, Marquess of Blandford (eldest son of John Winston Spencer-Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, K.G.), of 10 St James's Square, and Lady Albertha Frances Anne Hamilton (daughter of James Hamilton, Duke of Abercorn, K.G.), of Chesterfield House, South Audley Street (in Mayfair), were married 8 November 1869, at the Lady Chapel of Westminster Abbey, co. Middlesex, England.[2] Their marriage occurred the same day as that of Albertha's sister, Lady Maud Evelyn Hamilton.

    A note on page 56 ends, “each of those hereafter recorded was solemnized by virtue of a License.” The record from pages 60 and 61 follows :—

    “1869 Nov. 8 George-Charles Spencer-Churchill, Marquis of Blandford (eldest son of John-Winston Spencer-Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, etc., K.G.), of 10 St. James's Square, bachelor, of full age, and Lady Albertha-Frances-Anne Hamilton (daughter of James Hamilton, Duke of Abercorn, etc., K.G.), of Chesterfield House, South Audley Street, spinster, of full age.1

    1 He eldest son of John-Winston, sixth Duke of Marlborough, by Frances-Anne-Emily, eldest dau. of Charles William, third Marquis of Londonderry, and was born 13 May 1844. She sixth dau. of James, second Marquis of Abercorn, by Lady Louisa-Jane Russell, second dau. of John, sixth Duke of Bedford, and was born 29 July 1847. See her sister's marriage the same day.”
