ABOLISH THE TRANSPORT ACT

LOCK, STOCK, AND BARREL.

The fact that the Government Railways do not pay Is no justification for the confiscation by the State of private property, whether It be a house, a motor lorry, a motor bus, or anything else The State because It Is the State, Is not entitled to become a robber.

The penalties for robbing applied to the Individual citizen should also apply to the State. If citizen Smith grabs only one lorry from, say, Brown, Smith would get 12 months' gaol. Reckoned on this basis those responsible for putting away the lorries and buses of tho whole countryside should get 20 years on Devil's Island.

Before the Transport Act New South Wales was a free country. Now anyone who carries so much as a small parcel in opposition to the railways becomes a criminal. Thousands of good Australians, trying to earn a living, now dodge furtively along the roads at night-good Australians turned by Act of Parliament Into lawbreakers.

Every motor vehicle pays heavy taxes. First of all It pays o substantial Import duty. Then the motor vehicle pays annually a registration tax On top of these amounts the motor vehicle pays sevenpence a gallon duty on every gallon of petrol used. Why should the greatest Industry in the country - the motor Industry - be further saddled In any shape or form with restrictions In order to make State Fish Shops, or State Brickworks or State Railways pay?

If the railways do not pay, and If branch lines are responsible, then why not do away with the branch lines, and put down concrete highways on the already graded railway beds? The con- crete roads would be free to all and would not be an annual burden on the State

ABOLISH THE TRANSPORT ACT ALTOGETHER, AND FREE THE ROADS.

VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE WHO WILL DO SO.

Inserted by the Motor Traders, Bathurst

Signed, to comply with the Act, by George Horan, Durham-street, Bathurst.
