    Fred "Magee" Karpoff , 83, of Scenery Hill, died Sunday, December 20, 2009, in Washington Hospital.

    He was born August 11, 1926, in Ontario, Pa., a son of the late Peter and Mary Federoff Karpoff .

    Mr. Karpoff was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a carpenter's mate second class aboard the USS Marquette and the USS Ard 14. For his service, he received the World War II Victory Medal and Philippine Liberation Medal.

    He retired from Salsberry Autobody in Washington after 23 years of service. For more than 15 years, he was self-employed as an auto-body repairman in Scenery Hill.

    Mr. Karpoff was a 20-year member of Bentleyville United Methodist Church.

    He enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years and carpentry.

    On November 9, 1946, he married Corena Lindley, who survives.

    Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Karen Verosko (John) of Simi Valley, Calif., and Darla Jean Karpoff of Scenery Hill; a son, Robert Stiles Karpoff of Franklin Park; a sister, Anne Winstead of Mia, Mich.; a granddaughter, Natalie Matthews; two great-grandchildren, Tristen and Trey Matthews; and several nieces and nephews.

    Deceased, in addition to his parents, are four brothers, Lee, Michael, Tony and Pete Karpoff , and four sisters, Martha Daniloff, Frances Hines, Julia Ozana and Kay Tomlin.

    Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, with the Rev. David Zona officiating. Interment will follow in Scenery Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Bentleyville American Legion Post 165.
