  2.   1928 death date is from a copy of her death certificate. The family was living at 434 Avenue 66, Los Angeles per this certificate. It also shows her father as John J. Johnson and mother as Ann Titus.

1920 census shows her as age 42 (born 1878) living on Lake St., Los Angeles, CA, with her husband Ernest H. Bresee age 57 and son Phineas J. age 12. Also in the home was her step daughter, Rebecca age 19 and Ruth J. age 6 an adopted daughter. Grace was born in Vermont and her parents were born in New Hampshire.

1910 census shows her as age 33 (born 1877) living with her husband, E.H. Bresee age 47, son Phineas age 3 and servant Martha Rose age 34. Their home was at 1006 S. Lake St., west of downtown Los Angeles. Grace was born in Vermont and her parents were born in New Hampshire.

1906 LA Times obituary dated 10 April 1906 states that "In this city April 9, 1906 Mrs. Ann Johnson mother of Henry M. Johnson of San Diego, M.D. Johnson of Imperial, C.F. Johnson of Fresno, M.S. Johnson of Riverside, Mrs. J.E. Bradley of Riverside, Mrs. Ernest H, Bresee of Los Angeles, aged 63 years. Funeral at Bresee Bros. 6th and Broadway, Interment at Rosedale Cemetery".

1905 marriage certificate (LDS film 1033243) for Grace Johnson, age 28 (born 1877) and E.H. Bresee, age 44, shows she was born in Vermont. They were married in Los Angeles by P.F. Bresee, Minister of the Gospel. Present were Mrs. M.E. Bresee, his mother, and P.W. Bresee, his brother and business partner.

1902 dated photo shows she worked as a nurse in a private hospital in Hermosillo, Mexico.

1902 June 16th printed invitation for the graduation of nurses from the Los Angeles Christian Hospital located at 1301 So. Hope St., Los Angeles (location of the now known California Hospital) shows her as Superintendent of Nurses.

1900 she was in the third nurse's graduation class of 1900 for the Good Samaritan Hospital. Can not locate her in the 1900 census.

1881-1886 came to California by covered wagon (per family story told to me) to the city of Otay near the Mexican border after the Civil war. This is based on her father's death certificate which showed him in San Diego County for 8 years prior to his death in 1894. Her death certificate, shown above, shows she was in California 47 years at time of death in 1928. In the study "A Genealogical Guide to the Titus Family in North America" by William Arthurs, shows her uncle, Anson Titus, brother to her mother Ann Titus, also lived in Otay after serving in the Civil War. The "History of the town of Stratford New Hampshire 1773-1925" by Jeannette R. Thompson page 401 also shows the family moving to California in the 80"s.

1880 census shows her as age 3 (born 1877) and living with her parents in Brunswick, Essex Co., VT.

1877 birth date is from her death certificate. The "History of the town of Stratford New Hampshire 1773-1925" by Jeannette R. Thompson page 401 confirms her parents and date of birth (in the John Jay Johnson file). 1880 census and 1905 marriage certificate also shows she was born in Vermont. Her marriage certificate showed the middle name of J. Hand written note by Elvira Titus Spencer (copy in the Ann Titus file) shows Grace Johnson born July 11, 1879.
