Ida (Hunn) Kiefer was listed on two censuses that asked about the number of children born and the number of children living. In 1900, she was listed as the mother of 11 children, with 5 living. In 1910, she was listed as the mother of 9 children, with 4 still living. Nine children have been identified (Emma, Ida, George, William, Edward, a second Ida, Harry, Mahlon, and Louisa), leaving two unidentified children if the 1900 number is correct. In 1900 the five surviving children were William, Edward, the second Ida, Mahlon, and Louisa. Edward died in 1906, leaving four living children - William, Ida, Mahlon, and Louisa - in 1910.
