Per NEHGS Register, volume 13, 1859, p. 78, they were already married when they emigrated with Margery's two brothers from Horsmonden, Kent [probably emigrated with Simon Willard, 1634, of Cambridge, Concord and Lancaster; also emigrating, but not until 1638, was George Willard of Scituate and Maryland]. Source:Anderson, Robert Charles. The Great Migration: Immigrants to New England, 1634-1635, p. 2:297, notes that on 17 April 1635, "Margeret Davies", aged 32, Jo: Davies, aged 9, "Marie Davies", aged 4, and "Elizabeth Davies", aged 1, were enrolled for passage to New England on the Elizabeth, citing Hotten. However, every source I have seen for widow Margaret Davies of Boston who married Charles Grist of Braintree also cites this passenger list for her. In favor of this pertaining to widow Margaret Davis are two points: 1) Dolor Davis was granted land in Cambridge by 4 Aug 1634, so how do we know this is his family coming a year later; 2) no daughter Elizabeth is mentioned in Dolor's will or other document, leaving Anderson to add "no further record" after mentioning her estimated birth, whereas the widow Margaret Davies of Boston had a daughter Elizabeth Davis who married William Owen. In favor of this pertaining to Dolar Davis are two points: 3) Charles Grist's will which mentions the husband of daughter Elizabeth, does not mention her other children; 4) The ages of John and Mary match extremely well Dolor's known children of those names. In Dolor's family, this passenger list seems to be the source of the estimated birth dates for John and Mary, and the only basis for even suggesting there was a daughter named Elizabeth. Thus, these data items are a little tentative. --Jrich 12:54, 24 March 2010 (EDT) References
