"Anna M. Wardwell was yesterday granted a divorce from David K. Wardwell on the grounds of desertion and neglect. She said they were married in 1864. In 1866 he was appointed a collector of customs in Texas and from that time until 1885 she never saw nor heard from him, nor did he contribute to her support." The Washington Post 16 July 1887
