Cross Creek Twp. (pp. 721-742) History of Washington County, Pennsylvania* http://www.chartiers.com/crumrine/twp-crosscreek.html

David and Robert McComb were brothers, who emigrated from their home in Scotland to America, and both took part in the Revolutionary war. They came into this township as soon as they left the service, and their father, Robert McComb, Sr., who came with them, purchased four hundred acres of land, which he divided equally, giving each son two hundred acres. Robert McComb, Sr., died in 1794, in Cross Creek township. Robert McComb, Jr., lived upon the farm his father gave him until his death in 1827. About the year 1795 he built a fulling-mill on Cross Creek, upon the site of which the Wilson grist-mill now stands. The "Western Telegraphe" of May 6, 1796, contains his advertisement announcing that he had "erected a fulling-mill on Cross Creek, one mile from James Monsey's mill." His farm is now owned by the heirs of John Manson. David McComb also spent his days upon the property his father purchased for him, dying there in 1837 at the age of seventy-eight years.

Folks, I was reading through some miscellaneous sheets that I had photo-copied at the Lancaster Conty Historical Society several years ago from the FULTON surname folder in their vertical files drawer. One type-written sheet that caught my attention had the initials HLL 2/19/48. I am assuming this was Herbert L. Leister's analysis of a map, although no map was with this descriptive sheet. Since this was before the days of photo-copiers, I can understand why he had no copied map. Judging from the numbers he mentions, I think the map may have been based on warranty maps for Fulton Twp and Little Britain Twp, Lancaster Co, PA.

Here is what is on the type-written sheet:

beginning

Map of Part of the Conowingo Watershed, Lancaster Co., Pa. Covering mostly Fulton, formerly part of Little Britain twp.

Scale of miles: - 3" equals approximately 1 mile.

Tract #36 - addition to Fulton tract by James Gillespie

  1. 39 - do do do
  2. 37 - part of Fulton tract sold to Ross & Bickman.

The balance sold to Robert Sr. - then to Swift interests. This is the part that Walter Denny asked to have surveyed 1732/3, "as his soninlaw (stepson) desired to be near the other." (i.e. Denny) and is an addition to Fulton's original tract.

Denny's land joined Fulton. Denny and Montgomery were adminstrators of Fulton's estate. John Allison tract (B-6-214) joined the McComb tracts - David and John Allison's wife, Eleanor Fulton - thot (sic) to be sister of Robt Sr. ?

  1. 38 - David McComb tract lay on west branch of Little

Conowingo and the main stream - joined John Allison. William Fulton of Fawn twp York county married Mary, daughter of David McComb; and lived there before moving over to Fawn twp.

Conowingo is stream running from top to bottom of map- left hand side.

Little Conowingo flows down the right hand side, gradually bearing to the left thru land of Michael King.

Jim King's tract - supposed to have built first mll on Conowingo - and James Gillespie, the seoncd.
