- ↑ In the 1880 census (here, line 25), Bertha Lillian Whitney is listed as age 2, described as a boarder. In her 1897 marriage record to Joseph Dipper (here, marriage #6), her parents are listed as Daniel and Lovicy. In the 1900 census (here, lines 98-100), Bertha and Joseph are living with Lovicy, described as daughter and son-in-law. Bertha died in 1910, and her death certificate (here) lists her parents as unknown, even though the informant is her husband, and he was clearly acquainted with at least Lovicy. When Bertha was born 10 Jan 1878 (per death certificate), Lovicy was about 60, plus her inclusion as a "boarder" in 1880, all suggest she was possibly adopted, but was not a natural daughter of this couple.
