Cortland Radney was only 15 years old in the 1830 census, and was probably living with his father Henry Radney/Rodney in Falls, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. There is a male about that age in that household. I found several Hamiltons in Hamilton, Madison County, New York (which is where we find Courtland Radney and his next door neighbor David Hamilton in the 1840 census). There's:

Reuben Hamilton - 1 male 40-50, 1 male 80-90, 1 female 30-40 Henry Hamilton - 1 male under 5, 1 male 20-30, 1 female 20-30 Charles Hamilton - 1 male 60-70, 1 female 60-70 Ebenezer R. Hamilton - 1 male under 5, 2 males 5-10, 1 male 30-40, 1 female 30-40 Alva Hamilton - 1 male under 5, 1 male 20-30, 1 female under 5, 1 female 20-30

Malinda and Cortland named their sons, Henry, Alva, Charles Horace and Reuben. I believe Malinda is probably a Hamilton

1840 U.S. CENSUS

In the 1840 U.S. Census, Cortland Rodney was listed in a household that consisted of 2 males under age 5, one male age 20 to under 30, and one female age 15 to under 20. There were 4 people in the household and one was in manufacturing and trades. (The 1840 census doesn't list names or ages of individuals.) (According to the 1850 census, Cortland would have been 25, Malinda 19, Henry 3, and Alva, born Feb 1840, according to 1900 census.)

His next door neighbor was David Hamilton. That household consisted of 2 males age 10 to under 15, one male age 15 to under 20, one male age 50 to under 60, and one female age 50 to under 60.

1850 U.S. CENSUS

In the 1850 U.S. Census, Cortland Radney, age 35, is living with (the 1850 census doesn't list relationships, but I have assumed these relationships) (his wife) Malinda, age 29. He is a farmer and the value of his Real Property owned is $500. Also living with them are: (son) Henry H., male, age 13; (son) Alva R., male, age 10; (dau) Louiza J., female, age 7; (dau) Lurinda, female, age 4; (dau) Louis, female, age 2; and (son) Horace, male, age 4/12. Henry, Alva and Louiza are in school. Cortland was born in New Jersey, the others were all born in New York.

Their next door neighbor is Reuben Hamilton, age 23; Louis - female - (probably his mother) age 62; and Samuel (probably his brother) age 21. Reuben was born in Pennsylvania, Louis in Vermont, and Samuel in New York. The only reason I mention this is because the Radneys named a daughter Louis and a son Reuben. Not sure if they are related, or just close friends, or just a coincidence. It also compares with the ages of the Hamiltons living next door to the Radneys in 1840.

1860 U.S. CENSUS

In the 1860 U.S. Census, Cortlandt Rodney, age 46, is a Tailor. The value of his real estate is $400 and the value of other personal property is $150. (The 1860 census does not state relationships, so the following relationships are assumed.) Living with him are: his wife Malinda, age 39; son, Henry, male, age 22, a Boss Spinner; son, Alla, male, age 20, a Boss Weaver; daughter Louisa, female, age 17, a weaver; daughter, Elizabeth, female, age 14; daughter, Louis, female, age 13, in school; son, Charles, male, age 8, in school; son Ruben, male, age 4; and daughter, Hattie, female, age 1/12. Cortland was born in New Jersey, Malinda was born in Pennsylvania, and all the children were born in New York.

I have assumed that Horace died prior to 1860 since he does not appear with his parents in the 1860 U.S. Census. He would have been about 10 yrs old in 1860. I have also assumed that Lurinda & Elizabeth are the same person, since Lurinda was 4 in the 1850 census and Elizabeth (not previously mentioned) is 14 in the 1860 census. I believe Alla to be Alva, since family records show Alva.

1870 U.S. CENSUS

In the 1870 U.S. Census, Cortland Radney, age 55, is a brick maker. (Again the 1870 census doesn't list relationships so these are assumed.) This census does list values of real estate and personal property, however, there is no $ amount listed for Cortland. He is living in Auburn, Cayuga County, with his wife Melinda, age 49, "keeping house"; and son Reuben, age 15, a clerk in a store. Cortland was born in New Jersey, Melinda and Reuben were born in New York.

I haved assumed that Hattie died prior to 1870 since she is not listed with her family in the 1870 U.S. Census. She would have been about 10 yrs old in 1870.
