Clarence and Etta were married by Michael P. Loney, Pastor at St. Louis Catholic Church in Besancon, Indiana. Etta was baptised the night before she was married by Rev. Loney at St. Louis Catholic Church. Her baptismal name was Mary Etta. On the 71st anniversary of her wedding, Etta remembered that it started snowing that day, and by the time they got out of the church, the snow was up to her ankles and she had no boots. The reception was at the Townsend farm on Paulding Road, and her mother-in-law, Annie Ryan Townsend, made cakes for it. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1963. They had eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren at the time. Clarence retired from Centlivre Brewery as a truck driver. He was 72 years old when he died of a cerebral hemmorhage. Etta later belonged to the Crescent Avenue United Brethern Church. She was 89 years old when she died of cardiac arrest. They are both buried at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in New Haven, Indiana. |
