Charles Stockbridge [#4] m. [first child b. 1690] Abigail ---, probably Abigail Tilden, based on identification first presented by John William Linzee based on similarity of children's names to her sisters, parallel marriage of Charles brother Benjamin to Mercy Tilden, and sale of real estate by Abigail's father Stephen Tilden to Charles Stockbridge.
[Note: Not to say this is wrong, but this is all circumstantial evidence, not of the strongest type. The four daughters named after sisters (Mercy, Hannah, Ruth and Judith) are none of them wildly unique names, but the first daughter Rachel, occupying a key spot in the birth order, as well as Experience who likewise has no obvious namesake on either side, are named after who? Unlike sister Mercy Stockbridge who receives her share of her father's estate in a deed to sister Ruth, there is no sign that Abigail was explicitly given any inheritance (the probate of Stephen Tilden is very incomplete). The indicated deed to Charles has not been seen, but from the description given, apparently does not explicitly indicate any relationship by its wording.]
