(By 2d wife Hannah) Ebenezer (Brooks), b. Feb. 24, 1670-1.
[Note: records actually say 1667, so the date here does not appear to reflect a documented date. Rather, it appears Bond supplied the year of birth based on the age at death. 73rd year in 1742/43, age 72, so born 1670/71.]

Ebinesar sonn of Calib brooks and anna his wife borne. 21. feb. 1667
[In 1667, Caleb Brooks' first wife, Susanna Atkinson, was still alive and having other children 10 months before and 9 months after this date, so this date seems clearly in error. One possibility is that the year was meant to be 1669, but was misread as 1667. The Concord records appear to be printed in order of recording, and based on the dates of surrounding records, it appears likely that the year was 1669, as the surrounding records are from the spring of 1669/70, then progressing into summer, and eventually into 1670/71 many records later. If Ebenezer's birth was 1670/71, that would mean nearly every birth in Concord from the year 1670 was not recorded until the next calendar year which seems unlikely.]

  3.   Savage, 1:259, says Caleb Brooks m. (1) Susanna Atkinson, m. (2) "Hannah, sis. of the former w.". It is not clear how Savage connected the two wives, but it would have been very unusual at the time (see wikipedia:Deceased Wife's Sister's Marriage Act 1907), so it seems doubtful. There is no marriage record, the age at death is off by four years, and presumably any connection of Caleb Brooks to the Atkinson family may be explained by his first wife being an Atkinson and having left grandchildren. Certainly Hannah did not name either son after Thomas Atkinson (the name was available since Susanna had only daughters, so had no chance to). It would seem that some kind of evidence needs to be given before such an unusual and unlikely arrangement was accepted. Although many sources (but by no means all) that were investigated parrot the same claims, none seem to have any such evidence.
