Benjamin Wellington, s/o Benjamin m. Abigail Fessenden, d/o Thomas Fessenden and Abigail Poulter. She m. (2) Ebenezer Smith.

  2. The Lexington records appear to have duplicate records for children John and Benjamin, one set listed with parents Benj. & Margaret [sic??]. Benjamin is the problem, since his birth is either 1730 or 1738 depending on which record is used. The surviving Benjamin was born 1738 so the question becomes, was there an older one who died? No death date exists, and the duplicate for John suggests this is a misreading error.

The records in question all reference p. 31 of the original record, Source:Lexington, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States. Vital Records, 1677-1905, p. 31 (viewable at Family History Centers). The record appears to say:

B John Wellington Son of Benj'a Wellington jun'r and Abagail his wife Borne april 18 1736
Ditto Benj'a Wellington Borne april 22 1738 [note: the line dividing the top and bottom halves is thin, but clearly there, and written after 1736 date so some confidence this is 1738 not 1730]
    ...
B John Wellington Son of Benj'a Wellington & Abigial his Wife was born april 18: 1736 [note: day of month smudged, first digit dark 1 with shading that makes it resemble a 2; second digit appears to have been overwritten, could be 3 or 8. Mother's name faded, top of b gone, first letter looks like A, last letter like l, appears to be a dot over i following g so not r, but shape similar to Margrat if previous items ignored]
    B Benj'a Wellington Ditto was Bo[r]n april 22: 1738
    D Benj'a Wellington Son of Benj'a Wellington & Elizabeth Decesed noueber ye 15: 1738

Thus, these appear to be duplicate records. There is no mother Margaret, that appears to be the result of a single misreading propagated to a second record in the published VRs by a ditto. Both records for Benjamin appear to clearly say 1738, so first child born 1732 not 1730.
