    THWING, Benjamin (1619-1673) & Deborah ___; by 1642; Boston {Reg. 4:54, 18:291; 89:367; Thwing 13; Williams (#16) 280; Chapin 1:22}
    [The following entries explore Torrey's cited sources:]
    Reg. is Source:New England Historical and Genealogical Register
       p. 4:54 Will of Mary Hudson, dated 26:7:1651 [26 Sep 1651] gives to Benjamin Thwing "sixe pounds".
       18:291 appears to contain no pertinent material. The reference is probably to p. 78 (1924):291 (membership required) which gives the lineage of a Hannah Thwing, mother of the person being memorialized, George Albert Draper. She is "a descendant of Benjamin1 Thwing, who was born in England about 1619 and came to New England at the age of sixteen, and his wife Deborah, ..." [goes through later generations, omitted].
       89:367 (membership required) is a memorial of Walter Eliot Thwing, "descended from Benjamin1 Thwing, joiner, a native of England who came to New England in 1635 on the Susan & Ellen as a servant or apprentice of Ralph Hudson, and settled in Boston where he died about 1692, ..." [goes through later generations, omitted, no mention of Benjamin's wife at all].
    Thwing is Source:Thwing, Walter Eliot. Thwing, a Genealogical, Biographical and Historical Account of the Family
       p. 13 is cited on Benjamin's page. "His wife Deborah is reported to have come with him, although there is no mention of her named among the list of passengers. Perhaps she came in another vessel about that time. Her full name is at present unknown." [A transcript of the passenger list is given and there is no Deborah of any surname.]
    Williams (#16) is Source:Williams, Cornelia Bartow. Ancestry of Lawrence Williams
       p. 280 Coverage of Thwing family starting from Benjamin. "He emigrated with his wife Deborah in the "Susan and Ellen", Edward Payne, Master, from London to America in April, 1635", and later, "He married in England, Deborah ---."
    Chapin is Source:Chapin, Gilbert Warren. Chapin Book of Genealogical Data, with Brief Biographical Sketches, of the Descendants of Deacon Samuel Chapin
       p. 22 Ruth Chapin "m. Jan. 26, 1698, Boston, Mass., William Thwing, son Benjamin Thwing, shipwright, b. Dec. 28, 1656."

  2. Per Source:The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, p. 3:38, "Records of Boston", show birth of daughter Deborah on 17 (3) 1642 [17 May 1642] so probably married before 1642. According to Source:Thwing, a genealogical, biographical and historical account of the family, p. 14, Deborah was admitted to the First Church of Boston on 9 Aug 1642 as Benjamin's wife.
    [Added note: Source:Dunkle, Robert J. Records of the Churches of Boston and the First Church, Second Parish, and Third Parish of Roxbury, "First Church" , p. 27, transcribes the church record as "The 9th Day of the 8th Moneth 1642", which means Thwing misinterpreted the old-style date, and it was actually 9 Oct 1642.]
    [Note: In old-styles dates, the eighth month is October. More info may be found here.]
