From an interview given to Bellingham Herald, 6 Mar 1910:

After the close of the war Dr. Bond returned to his family in Chester to resume his medical practice. He found that, like the families of all the other soldiers, some of whom had not received any pay for almost a year at a time, his own loved ones had endured many privations, a condition which had, more than once during that time, required his wife to get in and do heavy manuel (sic) labor to feed her children, all of whom were too young to be of any assistance to her in a financial way.

Some time after his return, Dr. Bond removed his practice to St. Louis, where he secured an appointment as surgeon to one of the railroads running out of that city. he remained there until his health gave out and he removed to this city. ...

Altogether eight children have been born to Dr. and Mrs. Bond, five of whom, four sons and a daughter, are still living. They have twenty-one grandchildren living in various parts of the country and two great-grandchildren in Springfield, Mo. Dr. Bond’s sons are: Charles F. Bond, a mail carrier in Bellingham; Shadrach C. Bond, in the United States customs service in Seattle; Thomas W. Bond, an engineer living in St. Louis, and Edward R. Bond, a druggist in Alton, Ill. The daughter is Mrs. A. W. Watson, the wife of former Conductor Watson, of the B. P. & B. C. railroad and later of the Northern Pacific road, who formerly resided in this city, but who are now located in Seattle.
