Saddleworth was originally a parish in the ancient and ecclesiastical parish of Rochdale and later of Manchester. All church documents for Saddleworth and the area around it were filed with Manchester rather than the usual location of Huddersfield in Yorkshire for parishes further east. Saddleworth is now a part of Greater Manchester.
