Artie died from pneumonia and chronic bronchitis and pulmonary emphysema. He was 80 years old and had been a retail grocer. His doctor was Will W. Moody, M. D. of Vaughnsville, Ohio. His funeral was handled by the Harris Funeral Home, 105 Plum Street, Columbus Grove, Ohio. His wife Clara was the informant for the death certificate. They lived at 609 West Main Street in Cairo, Ohio, at the time of his death.

He was buried in Ottawa River Cemetery in Rimer, Ohio.
