There may be a transcription error in the above record for Rebeckah Porter. This item identifies her as the sister of Samuel Ewing. That implies that "Porter" is her married name. However, the record also identfies Magaret and Elender Porter as his sisters. This could be possible, if all three sisters married Porters, (say three brothers), but there's some reason to think that Samuel's full name was "Samuel Ewing Porter".

Allen et al. 2008:24 gives the following: image:Allen, 2008-24.jpg

The above indicates that Samuel Porter of Prince Edward county inherited land in Wythe County from an uncle. That uncle is probably the Samuel Ewing whose will was probated in Montgomery County in 1786., as noted previously. Samuel Ewings\'s will makes no mention of a bequest to a nephew Samuel, just to his "sisters" Rebeckah, Margaret, and Elender Porter. Perhaps those sisters transferred property to their brother Samuel Porter who married Ursula. Perhaps "Samuel Ewing" as rendered in Summers 1929, was really "Samuel Ewing Porter". NOte that Samuel and Ursula name a son "Samuel Ewing Porter" b 1799. Which may be a commenoration of their benefactor Samuel Ewing who died 1786.

In anycase, it would appear that this line of Porters came to Southwest Virginia from Prince Edward Count, VA. Perhaps there's a connection to the Thomas Porter who Summers 1903 identifies as settling on the middle fork of the Holston in 1774.
