Notes

Most of the WIllis entries in Washington County tax records were for individuals in the portion of the County east of Saltville. This area became Smyth County in 1832. Washington County tax records show a single entry after that date (in 1833) for Abner Willis. HIs presence in Washington County land tax records presumably reflects the transition of government from Washington to Smyth. Since he dissappears completely in Washington County after 1833 it is likely that after that date his land holdings were being taxed in Smyth County.
