The following list identifies American military deaths in Operation Enduring Freedom during 2001. Names are listed chronologically by date of death; identifying their age, rank, service component, unit of assignment, hometown, and circumstances of death.

Evander E. Andrews (36), Master Sgt., Air Force; Assigned to the 366th Civil Engineering Squad, Mountain Home AFB, Idaho (Hometown: Solon, Maine)

Died 10/10/2001. Killed in a heavy equipment accident in Qatar.

John J. Edmunds (20), Spc., Army; Assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Ga. (Hometown: Cheyenne, Wyo.)

Died 10/19/2001. Killed in action when his UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed at Dalbandin, Pakistan.

Kristofor T. Stonesifer (28), Pfc., Army; Assigned to the 3rd Battalion, B Co, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Ga. (Hometown: Missoula, Mont. Enlisted from Missoula where he was going to school but grew up in Doylestown, PA)

Died 10/19/2001. Killed in action when his UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed at Dalbandin, Pakistan.

Bryant L. Davis (20), Machinist’s Mate Fireman Apprentice, Navy; Stationed on the carrier Kitty Hawk, home-ported at Yokosuka Naval Fleet Activities, Japan (Hometown: Chicago, IL)

Died 11/7/2001. Died when he fell overboard in the Arabian Sea.

Benjamin Johnson (21), Electronics Technician 3rd Class, Navy; Based at Norfolk Naval Station, Va. (Hometown: Rochester, N.Y.)

Died 11/18/2001. Drowned aboard an Iraqi freighter that sank in the Persian Gulf.

Vincent Parker (38), Engineman 1st Class, Navy; Based at Norfolk Naval Station, Va. (Hometown: Preston, Mich.)

Died 11/18/2001. Drowned aboard an Iraqi freighter that sank in the Persian Gulf.

Giovanny Maria (19), Pvt. 2, Army; Assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y. (Hometown: Queens, New York City)

Died 11/29/2001. Killed by a non-combat weapons discharge in Uzbekistan.

Michael J. Jakes Jr. (20), Electrician’s Mate Fireman Apprentice, Navy; Stationed on the carrier Kitty Hawk, based at Yokosuka Naval Fleet Activities, Japan (Hometown: Brooklyn N.Y.)

Died 12/4/2001. Died of fatal head injuries after falling off a bunk in the Arabian Sea.
