Sallier Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Lake Charles. Under the iron archway leading to the cemetery is a plaque erected by the Sallier Heirs.
"Believed to be the first in this vicinity, it was a family cemetery prior to donation June 23, 1884, by Miss Severine Sallier October 24, 1816 - November 20,1884 daughter of Catherine LeBleu and Charles Anselm Sallier. In memory of Charles Anselm Sallier born in Holy Trinity Parish diocese of Chambery Province of Savoy France first known white settler on Shell Beach. The lake and city were named for him. He married Angelica Fontenot January 31, 1792, later Catherine LeBleu August 9, 1802. He was the son of Jean Monmayer and Michel Sallier also of France."
