Mara is one of the thirty regions of Tanzania. The region is named after the Mara River. Musoma serves as the Region's capital. The neighboring regions are Mwanza Region and Simiyu Region (to the south), Arusha Region (to the south east) and Kagera (across Lake Victoria). To the north east, Mara Region borders Narok County and Migori County in Republic of Kenya. Mara region is known around the world because it is home to the Serengeti national park is is the birth place of Tanzanian founding father,first president, humanist, philosopher and academic Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.
