Jemseg is located 6.13 km north-northeast of Gagetown in Cambridge Parish in Queens County, New Brunswick. The historian William Francis Ganong identified the Maliseet name for Jemseg as Ahjimeck or "picking up place".
Jemseg had a post office 1850-1969. In 1866 Jemseg was a farming settlement with about 48 families including 6 Colwell and 11 Dykeman families. In 1871 it had a population of 150. In 1898 Jemseg had 1 post office, 1 store, 1 hotel, 1 sawmill, 1 church and a population of 200. (Source:Place Names of New Brunswick)
