Neighbourhood within Tarragindi was named by Queensland Place Names Board 11 August 1975. Ekibin probably is derived from Aboriginal Yuggera language, Turrbal dialect word "yekkebin" indicating reeds or rushes (probably Typha augustifolia). Refer J.G. Steele. Aboriginal pathways.
