Suburb named and bounded by Queensland Place Names Board 11 August 1975. Boundaries altered by the Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, 22 April 2005. Boundaries amended by the Minister for Natural Resources and Mines and Minister Assisting the Premier on Water, 25 August 2006. Name probably derives from coaching stop on route 1869-1885 Brisbane to Southport, the stop was more likely to have been a watering stop rather than a horse change. Refer D. Tranter.
