Clear Lake was settled in 1880. In 1923 it had a population of 1550, and was also known as Mountain View. It was the center of a vast timer country, and had a lumber mill, a bank, a general store, a semi-monthly newspaper, and two churches, a Methodist Episcopal church and a Congregational church. It was on the Northern Pacific Railway, and shipped lumber, shingles, and dairy products. Source: Polk’s Skagit County (Washington) Directory, Volume X 1923-4, R. L. Polk & Co., Seattle, WA
