Buchanan County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. It was created in 1837 and was named in honor of Senator James Buchanan, who became the 15th President of the United States. The population was 20,958 in the 2010 census, a decline from 21,093 in 2000.[1][2] Its county seat is Independence.
