Thomas had an interest in the Wells Way Coal Works, which he inherited from his uncle John Hill James (this interest was worth 800 pounds with 500 pounds paid in cash). He also had shares in the Paulton Coal Company and the Radstock and Wells Way Coal Works (as shown in documents in family possession). He was a well to do Solicitor and Magistrate. He and Elizabeth did not have children.
