According to notes made by Thomas Henry Barker abt. 1898, "Simon was probably the son of William Meade of Meads Place, Somerset. The Meades were from Bristol; in the Church of St Mary, Redcliffe is the large altar tomb of Sir Thomas Meade, Bailiff 1439, Sheriff 1463, died 1475, also of Philip Meade twice Mayor of Bristol."
