    He served in the Missouri Legislature about 1834. In 1852, he traveled from Missouri to scout a good location in Texas, and decided on Smith County. When they arrived in north Texas late in the year, however, they found the Sulphur River flooded and impassable, so they decided to spend a season in Red River County and raise a crop before moving on in the spring. They never left and Simeon founded the village of English.
