Samuel4 Willard (Samuel3, Josiah2, Simon1), born at Saybrook, Conn., May 8, 1693; … He was a joiner by trade (see Probate papers of his brother Joseph); was a member of the House of Representatives in 1698; colonel of militia; speaker of the House of Representatives; a prominent citizen of Saybrook; elected town clerk in 1713. He died December 27, 1779. In his will, probated January 3, 1780, he bequeathed to his son George, to the heirs of his son Samuel, deceased, to daughters Sarah and Martha Parker, heirs of Rebeckah Morgan, deceased, and heirs of Hannah Bull."
