Paris, Maine was settled in 1779 as Plantation #4, Cumberland County in the District of Maine, when Maine was part of Massachusetts. In 1793, Plantation #4 was incorporated as the Town of Paris in Cumberland County. In 1805, Oxford County was set off from Cumberland County and Paris became the county seat. In 1820 Maine was set off from Massachusetts as a seperate state.
