    "… Nathaniel Jencks who was born at Providence, R.I., 29 January 1662/3 and died there 11 August 1723, son of Joseph and Esther (Ballard) Jencks … Nathaniel Jencks was made a freeman in 1690. He served as deputy in 1709, 1710, and 1713. He served on the town council from 1719 to 1723. … Nathaniel Jencks was a Captain and later a Major. …

    The will of Nathaniel Jenckes of Providence, dated 27 April 1721, codicil 31 July 1723, proved 31 October 1723, names wife Hannah; son Nathaniel; daughter Elizabeth Jenckes; son Jonathan; Jonathan and Mary, children of son Jonathan; and daughter Hannah Capron. He left Hannah £5 'in case [her] husband pays £43 which he owes.' His inventory included blacksmithing tools: bellows, forge, smith tools, vice, and anvil."
