Facts and Events
http://www.chenowethsite.com/ch1j0a1.htm Mary was the fourth child of Absolum Chenoweth, Jr. and Lydia Ann Ross. She was born July 09, 1800 in Berkeley Co., VA, but when quite, young her parents relocated to Jefferson County, KY. She married on October 10, 1824 to Elijah Thurman in Bullitt County, KY. Both Mary and Elijah were twenty-four at the time. Elijah, too, had been born in Virginia, though his parents are unknown. A daughter, Damaris, is listed in this family born May 22, 1822. It maybe that Damaris was a daughter of Elijah's by a prior marriage, her status is one of puzzlement. Elijah and Mary would have 4 children in Jefferson County, Kentucky before moving West to settle in Clinton Co., Indiana in late 1830s. This area was part of the Miami Indian Reserve, which was sold to the US in 1834 and given to the state of Indiana. Their other 4 children were born in this new location in the Sugarcreek Township of Clinton County. Here they would live and prosper and many of their descendants would live on in this Indiana area. In all, 57 grandchildren would be born, 37 of them during Elijah and Mary's lifetime. The bulk of this line, however, is carried by their daughters, as only one of the four Thurman sons, Joseph, is known to have had children. Elijah died in Clinton Co. within 3 months of his wife, Mary at the age of 70. Both are buried in the Baker Cemetery, one mile east of Scircleville, Clintom Co., IN. The name Thurman can be explored at THURMAN's QUEST . Cousin, John Gregg Scircle, III, has a THURMAN, SCIRCLE, AND GREGG website exploring these lines and their ancestry.
