Marie Matrisch was born on August 10, 1871 in Schtüzendorf, East Prussia, Germany. Schützendorf (now Dybowo, Poland) was located near the town of Ortelsburg (now Szczytno, Poland), about 90 miles south of Königsberg (now Kaliningrad, Russia). She came to the United States via Ellis Island in either 1902 or 1903 with her son, Alfred who was about 3 years old at the time. Her sister, Augusta, had already come to Pennsylvania and Marie probably lived with her for a few years before marrying John Paul Faeth who had three children from a previous marriage. Marie and John Paul were married August 10, 1905 at the First Lutheran Church, Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Marie is listed in the 1910 census as living in a rented home at 1966 Sowrie or Sonnie Street in Pittsburgh (Troy Hill) with John Paul, his three children, Edwartha (12), Elmer (10), and John Paul, Jr. (8), her son, Alfred (10), and their own son, Herbert. The 1910 census states that she immigrated to the US in 1903.

In the 1920 census Marie and John are living in their own home at 1506 Claim Street with Alfred (19), John (16), Herbert (11), and their two daughters, Irma (5) and Hildegard (4 1/2). The 1920 census states that she immigrated to the US in 1902. This conflicts with the 1910 census.

Marie died on March 12, 1951, just 10 days after her husband. She is buried with John, in Voegtly Evangelical Church Cemetery, in Troy Hill, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, section 2, site #91.
