Facts and Events
Name Levin Cooper
Gender Male
Birth? 28 Mar 1728
Marriage Abt 1752 to Sarah Wetherby
Death? Abt 1806 Shelby or Gallatin Co. KY

After their marriage they farmed a tract of land called Elephent Lott situated on the south side of the Nanticoke River on the hadwaters of Barron Creek adj. to lands called Bedford that were originally surveyed for Jamees WETHERBY who sold part of it to Gabriel COOPER in 1720-22.

Levin married Eleanor 2ndly but we do not have a record of that marriage or know who she was. Since we have no death date for Sarah I am not certain if all these children belonged to her but one would suppose if they had not Eleanor would have been noted in the Bible as the mother?

Levin sold his land in Somerset Co. in April of 1770 and next appears in Bedford Co. PA in the part that will eventually be Westmoreland Co.. In August 1776 he is shown as obtaining a passport to emigrate to North Carolina but I don't know what happened because in 1779 he got another one to return to Redstone and can be found on tax lists at Turkey Foot near Redstone.

1 April 1788 - Jefferson Co. Court Order Bk 2 p. 80 Deed from James F. MOORE and Hanes SULLIVAN to Leven COOPER for 200 acres was acknowledged and ordered recorded.

4 Nov 1788 Jefferson Co. Court Order Bk 2 p. 98 Leven COOPER fined 400 pounds of tobacco for not attending as Grand Juror.

16 Jul 1793 Levin Cooper purchased a tract of land in Shelby Co. from Squire Boone. He farmed that land until 11 Jul 1803 at which time his wife Eleanor sold it to his son Samuel COOPER and that is the last time anyone has him on a record - he would have been about 75 years old. He appears on the tax lists of Shelby Co. for the last time in 1806.

The family Bible of Levin Cooper and Sarah Wetherby still exists with a

Cooper descendant, published Cambridge, ENG 1754. Here is the family:

A virtual FAG # 164481921was created as a "placeholder" for Levin, hopefully to connect him with other family members. FindaGrave http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=164481921
