DEATH OF JOHN H. WILLMS

Another pioneer of Douglas county, John H. Willms of Douglas, WA departed this life on October 8, 1914, cause of death, cancer of the stomach. He was born Feb. 11, 1847 in East Friesland, Germany to Hero Willms and Ahitjien Kohlmann.

When about 20 years of age he came to the U.S. with his uncle and lived in Illinois for 2 years, then homesteading 80 acres in Crete, Neb. Here he was married to Gebke Everts who died about three years later. On Oct. 28, 1872 he was married to Elizabeth Luebben. In the spring of 1888 he came with is family to Douglas county, Wash., and settled down just below Douglas on a a quarter section of school land when he later bought (sic). Three years ago he quit farming and moved to Douglas, going into the livery business.

The deceased leaves eight children, namely : Meino and Eilt, Herman and Mrs. Fred Will, George, Henry and John and Miss Lettie. Services were held from St. Paul's Lutheran church, Rev. Reimann officiating; internment in Lutheran cemetery two miles east of Douglas. [Douglas County Press 15 Oct 1914]
