WILL OF JOHN WEBBS, 1794

In name of God Amen I Johe Webbs of Halifax County being very sick & weak in Body byt in perfect mind and memry and knowing that it is apointed for all men once to die do make and constitute this my last will & testament Cauling to mind and Memory what worldly goods it hath pleas God to in Dow me with Do give and dispose of them in the following maner. Item, I give unto my son Edmon Webbs a nagro Man Jack if the siad Jack Shall live to make three Crops the sd Edmon Webbs shall Pay to my Estate 1250 pounds of neatt Crop tobacco an the radue in case to be divided among the Rest of my Children & after My Debts is paid the Rest of my Estate to be Equaly devided between the other three Children namely George Webbs, Suaner Whitlock, Betty Gary I do point Edmond Webbs Wm. Nacthal?? Executors to this my Last will and testament in the year of our Lord 1794 August 11th

At a Court held for Halifax County the 22nd day of December 1794 The within written Last will & Testament of Joh Webbs Decd was Presented in Court & Proved by the oaths of 2 witnesses there to subscribe & Ordered to be Recorded And at the other Court held in said County the 27 of January 1795 And on the motion of Edmond Webbs one of the Executors named in the last Will & Testament of John Webbs who made Oath According to Law & together with John Collins & James Eastham his Securitys entered into & Acknowledge their bond in the penalty of Six hundred Dollars Conditioned as the Law Directs Certificate for Obtaining probate thereof in due form is Granted him.

This will proves that Thomas Whitlock's wife, Susannah Webb was still alive in 1794 and the marriage of Thomas Whitlock to Judith Carter is not the Thomas Whitlock who married Susannah Webb. There are also documents from 1807 showing Susannah as Thomas' wife.
