John died from "softening of the brain", and his son Allan was the informant. In his will, he left his property and coal business to wife Marion (who died in fact a month before him), Robert his eldest son, (residing at Crossroads, Dalry), and son Allan, (residing with him). Allan and John were 'taking coal from the Farm of Davidshill'. John left his money as follows: 300 pounds to Marion, 100 pounds to Robert, 100 pounds to daughter Jean (married to Hugh Jack, residing at Auchingree), 100 pounds to daughter Ann (wife of Robert Kilpatrick, storekeeper at Shotts), 200 pounds to John (son) in New Zealand, 160 pounds to daughters Margaret and Mary (residing with him) and 200 pounds to son Allan.
