In 1951, Mrs. Emma Cummings taught first grade at the Washington Street School in Bath, Maine. See Portland Press Herald (20 Jan 1951, p. 16), "Dike and Washington PTA Plan Founder's Day Observance Feb. 15." Emma's class was awarded an "Attendance banner."
