Burl Nicholas Keffer, 71, of Fieldale, died Tuesday, February 29, 2000, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. A native of Montgomery County, he was born July 9, 1928, and was a son of the late Jessie David and Mary Victory Furr Keffer. He was also preceded in death by a son, Burl Keffer Jr., and a grandson, Jason Keffer. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Washington Keffer of the home; three sons, Eddie Keffer of Axton, Ricky Wayne Keffer and Gene Keffer, both of Bassett; two brothers, Bittle Keffer of Patrick Springs and David Keffer of Martinsville; three sisters, Nellie Craig of Ridgeway, Ethel Newman of Bassett and Ellen Rader of Roanoke. Funeral services were held Friday at County Line Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Freddie Bonds officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Christian Church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fieldale/Collinsville Volunteer Rescue Squad.
