Audrey was a stenographer, and from the age of 17 she worked as Personal Secretary to her father, Alexander Wellington CROSKERY, who was at the time, president of the Federation of Labour. She held this position until he died, by which time she had married and had a son and daughter. She stayed on at the Federation of Labour working for AW's successor, for a period (a year or more). They all lived in Miramar with Colvin's widowed Mother, who acted as nanny to the children while Audrey was working. Quite a rare thing in those times. Following Colvin's mother death, they purchased a property in Sylvan Avenue, Waikanae. Which was used for holidays and weekend breaks (trend setters). They later relocated to this address and retired there. |
