Arthur Potter was born on 3rd August 1879 at South Kyme in Lincolnshire, son of Emma Selina Potter, formerly Barks, and her husband Perrin Potter, an agricultural labourer. Arthur appears to have been their only child. The 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses each find Arthur living in South Kyme with his parents. By 1901 Arthur's father was describing himself as a farmer, and Arthur's paternal grandfather was living with the family.

On 21st April 1907, aged 27, Arthur married Martha Cox. She was originally from Barnack in Northamptonshire, some thirty miles to the south, although her older sister Elizabeth had settled in South Kyme some years earlier. At the time of their marriage Arthur was described as "son of Perrin Potter of Fenmore House, South Kyme". Fenmore Farm stands in open fields a little way to the south-west of the village, off the road called Cow Drove.

Arthur and Martha went on to have two children together: a son in 1908 and a daughter in 1910. The 1911 census finds the family living at South Kyme, with Arthur described as a "farmer's son working on farm" - presumably the farm he was working on was his father's.

In 1920, Martha's brother William was ill and came to live with Martha and Arthur at South Kyme until his death in July of that year. Martha and Arthur were described as living at Poplar Farm at the time. In 1925 Arthur held an auction of all the stock at Poplar Farm, which he appears to have owned. After that time they let Poplar Farm to tenants and went to live with Arthur's father at Fenmore Farm.

In 1927 Arthur was prosecuted for dangerous driving. He was fined 20 shillings and also order to pay 16 shillings costs for almost causing a head-on collison whilst driving his car at about 20 to 25 miles per hour.

At the outbreak of the Second World War, Arthur and Martha were living on Low Road in South Kyme with their son and with Martha's sister Catherine. Arthur described himself as a farm labourer.

After the Second World War, in 1946, Arthur put an 80 acre farm up for auction. Whether this was Poplar Farm or Fenmore Farm is not specified.

Arthur died in 1953, aged 73. He died in the Sleaford district, which included South Kyme. Martha outlived him by nearly twelve years.

    DANGEROUS DRIVING.
Arthur Potter, of South Kyme, was summoned for driving a motor car to the danger of the public.
Mr. H.S. Jackson, of Lincoln, defended.
William Bett, of Boston, said on 21st July he was driving his car between Tattershall Station and Tattershall Bridge. He was approaching a wagon and horses, and behind them was a car. He got to within a few yards of the horses, and was just going to pass them on his proper side of the road, when the driver of the other car, the defendant, who he expected would wait for him to pass, pulled out and tried to pass the wagon at the same time. To avoid a head-on collison witness ran his car on to the footpath and grass. The defendant did not stop, but he managed to get the number of the car and reported him. Both cars would be travelling at from 20 to 25 miles an hour.
Defendant said he was the nearest to the wagon and thought he had a right to pass first.
The Chairman said defendant did not apparently know the rules of the road.
He would be fined 20s. and 16s. costs.
